Few hostels in Bahawalpur can claim to be a seven-minute walk from the Islamia University, but Al-Hafiz manages it, sitting just 0.61 km from IUB on Darbar Road in Gulshan-e-Farid Colony, with the post graduate college and Virtual University campuses close by as well. That proximity is the headline, but the day-to-day comforts hold their own. An on-site cook and a proper mess and dining hall mean residents eat well without the bother of self-catering, and filtered drinking water covers the basics of staying healthy through a long semester. Beds and mattresses are provided, geysers keep the hot water flowing, and a UPS keeps things running when the power drops, which in this city it reliably does.
