Gilgit and Hunza sit about two to two and a half hours apart on the Karakoram Highway, and they do opposite jobs. Gilgit is the region's administrative capital: the airport, the bus terminals, the banks, the bazaars. People sleep there because logistics demand it. Hunza is the reason the logistics exist — Baltit and Altit forts, Rakaposhi from your balcony, Attabad Lake, the Passu Cones.
